When he informs Lois, she finds the courage to leave her house and drive herself down to New Orleans. Now watch how she reacts to the reality of her husband's relationship with Mallory. This involves good writing and acting. Lois is a grown-up. She isn't jealous; she's more concerned that he's crazy. He isn't defensive; he's matter-of-fact. This is Mallory, she's a year-old runaway, he's helping her, she doesn't want help.
That's how it is. It's such a relief to be spared the usual cliches here and observe how Leo so convincingly channels a woman's mothering instinct. It's good, too, to see how director Jake Scott uses the physical presences of his well-cast actors. Leo is worn out by loss and worry, but smart and kind. And look at what Gandolfini does. He's a mountain of a man, but gentle, not threatening. In terms of body language, he establishes his character in a scene where he crawls into bed with his wife, and the mattress sags and he burrows into his pillow and looks — comfortable.
When he smokes, his huge hands dwarf his cigarette. There's a subtle tweak: He uses regular cigarettes, not king size, because they make his huge hands look even larger. I was struck at once by the uncanny accuracy of his central Indiana accent. I grew up in Downstate Illinois hearing men speak exactly like him. A kind of firm, terse understatement, on a flat, factual note.
I could close my eyes and imagine one lifelong friend in particular. We all sound the same to them. Goofs Doug sees Mallory sleeping and spreads a sheet over her upto her chest. In the next scene, sheet is upto her knees. Quotes Mallory : I'm nobody's little girl! Liggins Performed by Dr. John Courtesy of Clean Cuts Inc. Under license from Microhits, Inc.
User reviews 62 Review. Top review. Realistic, hard-core, weepy, funny, stark! Tennessee Williams lives again in Ken Hixon! Perfect cast: James Gandolfini is fantastic as this big oaf sentimentalist who doesn't want to see his tombstone while he's still alive and so he lives every moment. Then there is his wife played by Melissa Leo, what she does in the driveway is laugh-out-loud funny. And finally, the great trio includes Kristen Stewart who is amazing and whoever did her whore make-up--kudos!
And finally, New Orleans is the fourth character as a city that is also beat-up and striving for a rebirth, so I guess you could say she plays herself. Ken Hixon, I pledge to watch every thing you create 'cause you are the snake's suspenders! Details Edit. Release date November 18, United Kingdom.

Jun 25 HeyUGuys. James Gandolfini and Melissa Leo are Doug and Lois, a middle-aged couple whose marriage is buckling under the weight of a terrible loss: their teenage daughter has died. Doug has become a dead-eyed emotional zombie, trudging through his life; Lois has developed agoraphobia and can't leave the house.
On a business trip to New Orleans, Doug experiences some kind of epiphany or emotional breakdown while in a lapdancing club: he strikes up a protective friendship with Mallory Kristen Stewart a stripper who, of course, is about the same age as his absent daughter.
The relationship between Doug and his quasi-daughter works reasonably well, though of course reminiscent of Tony and Meadow Soprano, but it's impossible not to suspect that in real life, the outcome would be a lot messier and nastier than it is here.
