Can you freeze food in a can? As a general rule, canned goods should never be frozen. Although freezing extends the shelf life of most foods, canning already extends the shelf life of its contents as far as possible. If a known perfectly fine canned good becomes accidentally frozen, it can be used only if it is properly defrosted before use. What happens to cans in the freezer? Since water expands when cooled, the liquid in a can of soda will expand when frozen.

Soda cans are designed to hold a specific volume of liquid. When placed in the freezer, the water in the soda expands inside the can, and the volume becomes greater than what the can was designed to hold.

Can you thaw frozen soda? If the soda is frozen in a plastic bottle, it can just be set out to thaw; however, proceed with caution if it is in a metal can or glass bottle as it could explode. To defrost a plastic bottle, simply removethe bottle from the freezer and set it out at room temperature or in the refrigerator. Why does soda taste different after its been frozen? Why is it when you freeze then defrost coke it tastes different?

When it thaws, the syrup thaws first, then the water. This leads to the syrup being separated from the water, and unless it's thoroughly remixed, there will be parts of the drink that will be sweeter, and some that taste like water.

Most substances contract get smaller when they are cooled. Water, however, behaves differently and expands gets bigger as it cools and freezes. If you were to look at the ingredients on a can of soda, you'd find that it contains a large amount of water in fact, soda is made up of almost all water.

Since water expands when cooled, the liquid in a can of soda will expand when frozen. Soda cans are designed to hold a specific volume of liquid. This pressure causes the can to become strained and to eventually POP when left in the freezer for too long - leaving you with a messy surprise to clean up in your freezer!

Combining that with some uber freezing of canned beverage product and you have the worlds fastest picnic. Take a few of the sodas and place them in a steel pot. Toss in enough ice cubes to completely cover the sodas. Then fill the pot with room temp. Then add 2 cups of table salt.

Take a large wooden spoon and stir until the salt dissolves. Place in the freezer for about three minutes and you have Ice-cold soda.
